9 Senior High Schools Secure Qualification to the One-Eighth Stage After Day One of NSMQ 2025

The 2025 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) has kicked off in grand style, with nine schools booking their places in the one-eighth stage after an intense opening day of competition. From thrilling comebacks to commanding wins, Day One at the various centers across Cape Coast showcased the brilliance, strategy, and resilience that define the NSMQ.

Leading the charge was Ofori Panin SHS, whose staggering 79 points set the pace for what could be one of the most competitive tournaments in recent years. Their near-perfect display demonstrated sharp precision across all five rounds, making them the standout team of the day. Amaniampong SHS and Kumasi Academy followed with impressive performances, amassing 69 and 59 points respectively—both proving their readiness to challenge the big names in the next stage.

Sogakope SHS, Anlo SHS, and KNUST SHS also made strong statements, each controlling their contests with poise and focus to secure qualification. Kwahu Tafo SHS, OLA SHS, Ho, and Kumasi Wesley Girls’ High School rounded out the list of qualifiers after impressive efforts in their respective contests. Though some schools narrowly missed out, the day was filled with determination and passion that set the tone for what promises to be an exciting NSMQ season.

With these nine schools advancing, the stage is now set for fiercer battles in the one-eighth stage as they aim to bring glory to their regions and cement their names in NSMQ history.
